When I moved to Providence from California, I thought I died and went to thrift store heaven. I know it isn't a common view of the afterlife, but I would probably be pretty happy to spend eternity perusing the racks at any of New England's fine Savers Department Stores. I take that back, actually. I wouldn't want to be stuck in the Worchester location; there's never anything good at that one. When I lived in California, "thrifting" was a losing battle. Often I'd spend hours on end rummaging through stained dresses, only to come up empty handed and smelling of dirty laundry. I know the concept is that you wade through rubbish until you find that one true gem, but I always found it disheartening in the Bay. In New England, it's another story. Going thrifting here, I always need a carriage to fill up with prime vintage goods to try on in the fitting rooms. In California, the attendants pester you the second they notice you've got more items than the limit. In New England, you can waltz into a dressing room with twenty 1970s secretary dresses and no one bats an eye. I took a friend from San Francisco to the EP Savers and she ended up spending $76.00. She walked away with 3 pairs of shoes, 4 dresses, 2 blouses and 2 pairs of pants. Try getting away with that at Target!

Ok, so this store is not as magical as the Savers on Branch Avenue, but I am still a fan of this place. It has a huge jean section, much like the Savers in Warwick. The dress selection is not as high end like the one on Branch, but I did find some neat items. The store really clean like the other locations. That is one of the main reasons I like to shop at these thift stores. Plus, this store is crazy organized, which is nice.

Oh Savers, if only you had locations in NJ. I love this place. It's like the Walmart of thrift stores. Sadly, the prices here are not as wonderful as they once were. I paid $36 for three pairs of pants and a shirt at my last visit. Yes, I realize this is still cheap, but I guess I've been spoiled by other thrift shops that charge less than $5 for most items. But Savers makes up for this in sheer selection. Whether shopping for an ugly sweater party or just a new pair of work pants, your chances of finding what you're looking for are quite good.

I have been thrift shopping for over 20 years so I have many shops in my memory to compare this place to. The main problem with this store is that before the clothing hits the floor its been CHERRY PICKED. Most goodwills and Salvation Army stores are fun because you can usually find some better labels mixed in. Not so with this store. I found one or two Banana Republic sweaters but I don't consider that label to be "high end". Most of the clothing is from less than department store quality outlets. Its a real shame too because this is such a large location and could be fantastic. But it ain't.

Under the glare of fluorescent lights, racks bulge with colorful textile wonders cast off from decades past, awaiting new, appreciative homes. It is rare that I do not leave with a giant gunny sack of goodies - electric blue blouses, fancy floral dresses, paisley scarves, soft suede shoes - all for less than 20 bucks. Sure, you'll have to pick through some ratty t-shirts, moth-eaten sweaters, and endless racks of mom jeans, but believe me, it's worth it. My most recent find: a cobalt coat made in "Jugoslavia" with matching leather kid gloves stashed secretly in the pocket.

This place is rad. This place is huge!!!....the men's section is outstanding (as is the book section, women section, and baby section). They always have special "tag" days and promotions, making shopping even less expensive. Be sure to hit up the Chinese buffet right next door. My only negative - use hand sanitizer after your visit here. It's a gross feeling when you leave, after carrying all of your purchases on the hangers and wheeling the cart around!

Now in a new building (in the same shopping center), much more organized and with more items. I was impressed. I found quite a few things to purchase. Because some of their items can be on the pricey side, I suggest going on a holiday when they are 50% off! I know they are having another one of these 50% off sales on Pres day.

This one is way smaller than the one in New Bedford, and a lot messier. Can never really find anything good here.

Want to look like one hot mama and not spend a fortune? Going thrifting at Saver is quite an experience. They have some really awesome finds if you are willing to do some digging and are ok with clothes that are previously worn by a stranger. Whether it's for Halloween or a wedding, I've found some pretty great duds, and most run under 10$!. I'm pretty sure a dress I recently bought for a wedding was close to 100$ new and I paid 10$. Not bad, I say. Another great thing about Savers is that you can get some great people watching in. Think 'people of Walmart.com'. That good. They also have jewelry, shoes, household items, and more for sale. I also take my old unwanted items and drop them off at the donation center. It's fast and easy. So, as skeptical as I was previously for shopping for clothes at Savers, I now agree that thrifting is fun and well, cheap. Can't go wrong with that.

Items in this store are overpriced compared to other Savers. And they're very disorganized. They hang the pants, shorts, skirts, etc in a weird, lopsided way. I had to struggle in looking for the price tags!
(2)Margaret G.
Worst savers in the state in my opinion. Ridiculously overpriced for all around filthy merchandise. Store itself is clean but that's the only thing. Save yourself some money and go next door to Marshall's, you'll get brand new stuff for the same prices as this location.

This Savers is definitely the worst one I've been to. Grossly overpriced in every department . They NEVER do color sales. You will not "Find the Find" in this place dear shopper. Go somewhere else. To top it off the parking lot at this place is a totally crazy,it would seem EP folks don't know the first rule of the road. Stay to the right!

I love coming here! Me and my mom can spend hours here looking through all the clothes and vintage stuff they have. She always finds name brand clothes in her size with the original price tags on them! The stuff isn't too expensive so you can have a mini splurge here. I love looking in the book department because I can usually find a bunch of books I like for cheap! Nice way to spend the afternoon.

Pretty cool place! Large floor space. Everything's organized. And, more importantly, everything is dirt cheap. Very cool consignment shop. The staff are friendly and put up with a lot of weird characters who waltz in.
(5)Katie R.
This was my first ever Savers and therefore my favorite. I found some many fantastic things while living in providence here. They have some of the funkiest home decorating stuff. If you are patient you can find some amazing clothes, but it requires a lot of digging and trying on of things. There 50% off holiday days are not to be missed. I bought a couch for 15 dollars here on labor day a few years back. It was gold crushed velvet. LOVE.

This is the best Saver's out of the 6 in the general area, and the one that I come to most often. Just like all of the Saver's stores, its hit or miss. One day you might find a ton of brand name items at reasonable prices, few days later you'll come in and look through the racks and there's just Kmart and Walmart labels.. but you never know.. They have everything though.. housewares, knick knacks, cooking supplies, tons of books and shoes, more clothes than you'll ever need, kids toys, I've heard its great for kids clothes, but since I'm childless, I've never ventured into that section. The clothing they sell is in good to excellent condition. On occasion I've found a pair of pants or a shirt that's ripped and most likely that's happened when someones tried it on and no one noticed while putting it back. They do have a locked case in the front with designer purses and other more expensive items.. Be careful with the purses, even if Saver's is saying they're real, they're not always real.. know your brands and how to tell real from fake, so you don't end up overpaying. They have a lot of knock offs with the regular purses as well, if you don't mind a knock off (I certainly don't, as long as its in good shape and looks real!) you can find one for under $10. This particular store is always neat and clean, I can't say It for all of them though. The bathrooms are even pretty clean. There are plenty of employees around if you need something, and most of them are friendly and helpful. The return policy is decent too, items must have price tag still on it and you have a week to exchange with your receipt. If you're new to shopping at Saver's be sure to ask an employee which color is half price (2 colors during the week) then you can save even more money, and get their rewards card, then you're notified of special sales. I've saved a fortune in this store over the years, and you will too once you give it a try!

Used to come here all the time because they had such good deals. Wow have we changed. Browsing through the racks I came across a gap shirt with the tags still on it. $34.99 on the gap tag and $29.99 on the savers tag! Are you kidding me?! The shirt was probably from 3 seasons ago and now smelt like basement, the oh so glorious smell of savers. ::gag:: I went looking for some kids jeans for my kid, some had holes others were worn badly on bottoms and they were charging $7.99 per pair. Honestly you could get a better deal at Sears on a sale. Savers used to be a fave, now it angers me to see how bad they attempt to rip people off.
(1)Ann G.
You won't find a better thrift store in the area! This is my go-to place! Although they can be quite pricey, I make it a point to stick to the colors that are discounted in order to maximize the savings. It's pretty clean and the quality of the clothes is pretty good. I'm hooked!
(5)Grace D.
I think this Savers is very well-organized by size and color. I'm a new transplant to RI and a virgin to the world of Savers. Compared to Goodwill, I think Savers may be cleaner and more well-organized, but I always found the most amazing clothing at Goodwill, especially the huge, headquarters one in Boston :) On a routine trip to Stop & Shop, I stopped by this Savers. Most of the items seemed too old school like items you'd wear to an "ugly Christmas sweater" party. However, I did come away with a Betsey Johnson trench coat (missing a button and the belt) and a cashmere Barney's hoodie. Otherwise, I'm sticking to thrift shops in Boston. I found items fairly over-priced compared to Goodwill, too. At Savers, "name brand" items are priced higher when a shirt should just be priced a shirt.

Thrift store heaven!!! Recently having moved to what seems to be a larger location, this Savers store displays racks and racks of anything and everything imaginable. Short sleeve shirts, long sleeve shirts, sweaters, blouses, blazers, athletic wear, jeans, pants, capris, shorts, undergarments, sleepwear, jackets, coats, shoes, dresses for all occasions, etc! And thats just the women's department! Women's, Men's, Kids, Furniture, Books/Cd's/Dvd's, Households, Shoes, Bags, Toys to name a few of the areas found in this store. Most clothing items are under $10. I've never gone into the store and not bought something! Great for creating halloween costumes, stocking up on pants and shorts for the new season, finding a shirt for an upcoming holiday, the list goes on. Made a Padme Amidala from Star Wars and Alice from Resident Evil costumes for Halloween from clothes soley bought at Savers! I was given a "Super Savers Pass" today entitling you to 30% off once 15 stamps are collected ($5 spent per stamp or a donation of clothing). Not a bad deal! Oh Savers. . . what deals/find will I discover on my next visit?!?!
(4)Shawn P.
This Savers is like any other. They have some great deals but it's mostly (to me) stuff I don't need. Once in a while I'll come across something worth buying. I guess that's the charm of a thrift store. The employee's are a bit rude but you will get your bang for your buck.
(4)Erin N.
Anyone who doesn't shop at Saver is crazy. There are so many high quality items here. Think of it as a new age antique store. I have gotten so many CLEAN and GOOD CONDITION items here I cannot count. I'm talking new with tags, Levi capri's $6.00 Bakeware for $3.00 All books are used but under $2.99 You really just have to look.
(4)Sarah C.
The kind of shopping you need to not just roll up your sleeves for... but purposely not shower beforehand, and be prepared to leave with your hands feeling like you've been digging in a backyard and smelling like must and metal hangers. It's a dig. And sometimes, you'll get a find. Their sales are awesome, especially when you get to fill up a whole bag. This is a bargain hunter's paradise, but you have to be devoted and you had better not be clean, because you will feel leaving filthy even if you've scored 15 items of clothing for $10. I once found a pair of pseudo-Frye boots in the East Greenwich location. This was about 8 years ago. They were $10. I wear them weekly. I have received many, many compliments over the years. Yeah, Savers!

SHORT: Spent $100 and bought 20+ really tasteful and clean looking stuff from blazer jackets to nice dress shirts! Don't come here for shoes. But, for anything else, don't even think about going anywhere else if you're looking to buy second hand clothing. Got a nice light blue Ralph Lauren shirt for $3.99, a Brooks Brothers blazer for $4.99 and nice Madras short for $2.99... LONG: Ever since I graduated (in other words no more dolares de los parentos) I became that bargain hunting, penny saving grandma; looking forward to saving 5 cents each when I use my grocery bags; occasionally taking the bus instead of driving; going to the sale section at TJ Maxx etc. However, here was my dilemma: how could I save money and not look like a Salvation Army employee ? Well, my colleagues told me about a magical place called "Savers" where one can buy a classy Brooks Brothers navy blue jacket for... $4.99 or a nice madras short for $2.99!! I know you're like "Oh shut up! That ain't true buddy!", but it fortunately is my fellow Yelpers... I bought those two, 3 more jackets, 10 other nice dress shirts, 3 khakis shorts and a GAP sweater for under $100... That is twenty plus tasteful clothing for under hundred bucks! WELL, here is where the five star comes: Not only I was overjoyed at the register with the price I paid for all those awesome stuff, the cashier told me about a rewards card (they basically stamp a circle each time you spend more than $5!) and she told me I would be able to save 30% Off!! Like I needed more to be their loyal customer! Man, this place is awe-some! I really cannot praise it enough! You won't be disappointed if you keep in mind that this is still a thrift store.

Ah, my mothership! I will gladly take multiple buses to get here-- it's entirely worth it. I almost never come out empty-handed and their prices are typically reasonable. They also don't immediately discard vintage, polyester donations (wheee!), as I've heard of other stores doing (under the impression that people don't want "out of date" fashion. Wut?). This location also doesn't seem to get as picked over as it's PVD counterpart. The staff are also pleasant and often engage me in conversation, but to me this is just an added bonus, not a necessity. The only downside is their record selection, but I don't see that as being anything they can control. But, heck, if you're in the mood for Chuck Mangione or Barry Manilow, this would be your saving grace.
(4)Morgan C.
Do not be fooled by the vast size of this thrift store. Many racks are only 1/3 filled with worn out, "brand name" finds. I mean, I guess if you want something from Cold Water Creek 5 seasons ago, this is your place, but if you are looking to score some unique vintage pieces, steer clear. There were a couple of interesting dish sets in the housewares department, but the books warranted the 2 star rating. Although a bit over-priced at $2.99 ea, the deal is buy 4, get the 5th one free. The collection is organized by genre but make sure you look through everything because a lot of titles have been put into incorrect catergories. Also they allow exchanges! This the first thrift chain I've ever come across, at which all sales are not final. Check this Savers out if you need a good book, not a new look.

I enjoy getting my save on. I find that this location has the best selection. I especially enjoy the T-shirt selection. I've found some gems here - Fantasies, extra T's from some kid Max's Bar Mitzvah, the list goes on and on.....
